A beautiful show on the ABC about the book The Power of Flour, A Photographic History of Milling in Australia by Jess Jennings and John McCorquodale discusses the history of Australian flour milling as well as the branding or flour bags. The importance of flour, of course as we know, was vital for the development of Australia. As with many things, people usually don’t consider something as all present, ubiquitous as flour.
The milling of flour is seen as the oldest industrial process! The show speaks also about indigenous flour making with some accounts pointing to the fact that first breads were made by Aboriginal people. A fascinating and important journey into the history of THE key food element of our civilization. And oh, flour is explosive! Great stuff, check it out!
